I have never written to any publication before. However, my recent experience of having been chosen to go on a Last Frontier Honor Flight on Oct. 11 from Anchorage to Washington, D.C., on a five-day trip at no cost to the veteran has compelled me to do so.

I was very fortunate to be chosen to go to Washington DC on the Honor Flight in October, 2018. I was treated like royalty. I enjoyed it very much and I want to thank everyone that was involved in making it happen

One thing I recall the most about the trip to Washington, DC were the greetings and welcomes at the Portland and DC airports. The waiting passengers, people coming out of the shops, some even came out of Alaska’s Horizon Boardroom. Amazing. A super surprise when our DC Guide, Sam, said we had extra time for a, first ever, stop at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) memorial. Enjoyed seeing the wheelchair he invented; the statue of him with his dog; the separate tributes to Eleanor. The entire trip was very memorable.
